All the fishing tackle that you would need When it comes to recreational activities, there is nothing that is like fishing. It is a sporting activity that needs one to use their reflexes and their brains too. The end result is that one gets to go home and have some fish and hence is a dual win situation! Fishing has been gaining in popularity over the years and now there are regular tournaments for sport fishing around the globe. When one decides to go fishing, one cannot go sit by the waterside and drop our non-existent tail in and catch fish like a polar bear. It would make things easy and be light on our pockets, but unfortunately that is not the case. We need to procure fishing tackle but it can get confusing for the amateur fisherman as to what exactly he needs. So here is the low down on the basic essentials that one would require for a round of sport fishing. Rods, reels and lines The most important accessory for fishing would be the fishing rods. You can get them in a variety of price ranges to suit your budget and needs. Each rod is designed for a specific type of fish and weather condition in mind so choose your rod based upon that. The rods are usually made of graphite or fibre glass with certain more high tech rods made out of carbon fibre. There are two types of commonly used fishing reels; the spinning type and the casting type. Usually you can get your reel as a single unit attached to your rod and you need not procure it separately. If you are trying out fishing for the first time, just hire a basic rod to get the feel first. Then go out and buy your own. Fishing lines are as important as the rods. The lines will hold the bait and must be able to withstand the pressures from the fighting fish and your end. Choose your lines based on the capabilities of your rod and fishing reels. Do not go for lines that are too heavy as they will be visible to the fish, making them wary. The most commonly used lines would be of the eight to sixteen pound-test range. Hooks, Bait and floats The hooks, bait and floats form the second tier of necessary fishing equipment. Fish hooks are available in a lot of sizes but it would be best to procure a box or packet that contains all the sizes especially if you plan on using live bait. Choose your hook based on the approximate size of the fish that you intend to catch. Small hooks could get swallowed while large hooks might damage the fish. When it comes to bait, you can choose from live bait or artificial bait. Earthworms would be the most common of live bait and if you have all the time in the world you can dig them out from your garden itself. But else, there will always be a can available from your fishing equipment store nearby. Floats are attached to the fishing line and used to help identify when a fish has taken the bait. Go for small floats.
